César Franck was a French composer, organist, and teacher who lived from 1822 to 1890. He is considered one of the greatest figures in 19th century Romanticism and was an influential figure in French music of the period. He is best known for his compositions in the symphonic, chamber, and organ genres. His standout works include the Symphonic Variations for Piano and Orchestra, the Symphonic Poem “Les Djinns,” and the Sonata for Violin and Piano.

César Franck's most acclaimed album is the “Organ Works” released in 1993. This collection includes several of Franck’s best-known organ works such as the Grand Piece Symphonique, the Chorale No. 1 in E Major, and the Cantabile. Other notable albums include “The Complete Works for Piano,” “The Complete Works for Organ,” and “The Complete Works for Chamber Music.”

Some of César Franck's most popular songs include “Panis Angelicus,” “The Beatitudes,” and “The Prelude, Chorale, and Fugue.”

An interesting fact about César Franck is that he was the first musician to ever be awarded the Légion d’honneur, France’s highest honor.
