Erroll Louis Garner (June 15, 1923 – January 2, 1977) was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his swing playing and ballads. He was acclaimed for his distinctive and melodic style which made him one of the most popular jazz musicians of the 1950s and 1960s.

Garner's first major success came in 1951 with his release of the live album Concert by the Sea. This album sold over a million copies and was one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time. His other standout albums include Contrasts (1955), Ready Take One (1963), Feeling is Believing (1968), and Closeup in Swing (1970).

Garner's best-known compositions include "Misty" (1954), "Dreamy" (1955), and "Teach Me Tonight" (1954). His instrumental version of "Misty" became one of the most recorded jazz standards of all time.

An interesting fact about Erroll Garner is that he was self-taught and was unable to read music. He developed his own unique style of playing by listening to and transcribing other jazz musicians. He also had an encyclopedic memory and could recall many jazz standards and popular tunes at will.
