Felicity Palmer

Felicity Palmer is an English mezzo-soprano singer and professor of singing at the Royal College of Music in London. She began her musical career as a chorister in a church choir, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music. She made her professional debut in 1974, singing the role of Isolier in Rossini’s Le Comte Ory.

Palmer has made over 60 recordings, many of which feature music by Bach, Handel, Purcell, Schumann, and Britten. Her standout albums include:

• “Cantata Arias” (1999) • “Sacred Arias” (1995) • “Mahler: Kindertotenlieder” (1992) • “Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem” (1991) • “Handel: Messiah” (1989)

Notable songs include:

• “Brahms: Geistliches Wiegenlied, Op. 91” • “Bach: Wachet Auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140” • “Purcell: Dido’s Lament” • “Britten: A Ceremony of Carols” • “Handel: Ombra mai fu”

An interesting fact about Felicity Palmer is that she is the author of the book Singing: A Way to Freedom, which is an exploration of the role of singing in connecting with the self and the world around us.
