General Public Vinyl Records

General Public is a British rock and ska band formed in London in 1981 by vocalist and guitarist Dave Wakeling, vocalist and bassist Ranking Roger, and guitarist Andy Cox, who were all former members of the English Beat. They released their debut album, All the Rage, in 1984, which featured their popular hit single "Tenderness". The song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States and was featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Breakfast Club.

Their follow-up album, Hand to Mouth, was released in 1986 and featured the hit singles "Hot You're Cool" and "I'll Take You There". The band disbanded in 1987, but reunited in 1999 for their album Rub It Better, which featured the single "General Public".

The band has since released four more albums, Piece by Piece in 2003, GP/FX in 2006, General Public in 2011, and The G.P. Collection in 2012.

An interesting fact about General Public is that they were one of the first British ska bands to achieve success in the United States, paving the way for other bands such as The Specials, Madness, and The Selecter.
