Global Communication

Global Communication is a British ambient and electronica duo from Manchester, England, composed of Tom Middleton and Mark Pritchard. Formed in 1992, the duo is credited with pioneering the “ambient house” style of music. They are best known for their album 76:14, released in 1994, which is often cited as one of the greatest ambient albums of all time.

Global Communication’s debut album, 26 Mixes for Cash, was released in 1993, and featured a collection of remixes they had produced. The duo followed this up with their most successful album, 76:14, in 1994. It featured a wide range of ambient, downtempo and techno tracks, including the singles “The Way” and “9:39”. Other standout albums from Global Communication include Relativity (1996) and Pentamerous Metamorphosis (1999).

Global Communication’s songs have been featured in several films, including The Beach and Vanilla Sky. They have also collaborated with other prominent electronic acts such as The Orb, Brian Eno, and Aphex Twin.

An interesting fact about Global Communication is that the duo was commissioned by the British government to create a special soundscape for the Millennium Dome in 1999. The soundscape was meant to capture the feeling of the new millennium and was broadcast throughout the dome.
