James Last (originally known as Hans Last) was a German composer, bandleader and arranger of easy listening and pop music. He was born in 1929 in Bremen, Germany, and was trained in classical music. Last formed his first orchestra in 1950 and rose to fame in the 1960s when he released his first album, Non Stop Dancing, which featured his own arrangements of popular tunes.

Throughout his career, Last released over 200 albums and sold over 75 million records. Some of his most well-known albums include Voodoo Party, The Very Best of James Last, Classics Up to Date, and The Best of James Last.

Some of Last’s most famous songs include "Game of Thrones Theme", "Happy Music", "Music from Across the Way", and "Biscaya". He is also known for his unique style of arranging popular tunes, which often included medleys of multiple songs.

An interesting fact about James Last is that he was the first Western artist to tour the Soviet Union, in 1976. He was also the first artist to perform at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses, performing to an audience of over 4,000 people.
