Jelly Roll Morton was an American jazz pianist and composer, who was one of the most influential figures in early jazz music. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1890 and began playing piano at the age of 10. He was a prolific composer, writing over 200 pieces of music, including some of the most influential pieces of early jazz. His most famous compositions include "King Porter Stomp," "Grandpa's Spells," and "The Pearls." He is also known for his musical innovations, including the use of counterpoint and syncopation, as well as his trademark "Spanish tinge" style.

Morton's most notable albums include The Pearls (1926), The Complete Library of Congress Recordings (2005), Jelly Roll Morton: The Complete Victor Sessions (1927), and The Complete Jelly Roll Morton Piano Rolls (2010). His most popular songs include "King Porter Stomp," "The Pearls," "Grandpa's Spells," "Jelly Roll Blues," and "The Crave."

An interesting fact about Jelly Roll Morton is that he was the first to coin the phrase "jazz" to describe his music. He used the term in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 1917.
