Jesse Winchester (1944–2014) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. Born in Louisiana and raised in Mississippi, Winchester was a folk musician whose music often focused on Southern culture. He released his first album in 1970, and his career spanned more than four decades.

His standout albums include his self-titled debut album, Jesse Winchester (1970), which contained his song "Yankee Lady" which was later covered by Linda Ronstadt. His second album, Third Down, 110 to Go (1972), contained the songs "Sham-a-Ling-Dong-Ding" and "Mississippi, You're on My Mind". His third album, Learn to Love It (1973), contained the songs "Rhumba Man" and "The Brand New Tennessee Waltz".

In 1977, Winchester released his fourth album, Nothing but a Breeze, which contained the song "Say What", which was later covered by Bonnie Raitt. His fifth album, Talk Memphis (1982), contained the songs "Talk Memphis" and "O What a Thrill". His sixth album, Humour Me (1985), contained the songs "Payday" and "Defying Gravity".

An interesting fact about Jesse Winchester is that he had to leave the United States in 1967 due to his opposition to the Vietnam War, and lived in Canada until the late 1970s. He was eventually able to return to the US after President Carter issued a pardon to draft dodgers.
