John Sangster (1930-1995) was an Australian jazz drummer and composer. He is best known for his work with the Melbourne-based Jazz World, which was the premier jazz group in Australia for many years. He also worked with some of Australia's most famous jazz artists, including Graeme Bell, Don Burrows, and John Dankworth.

Sangster's most acclaimed albums include the 1964 release Jazz World – Live at the Jazz Centre, the 1965 album Jazz World – Live at the Jazz Centre Volume 2, and the 1967 album Live at the Jazz Centre. He also released several solo albums, including Jazz Drum Solos (1971), This Is John Sangster (1976), and Jazz Drumming Around the World (1977).

Some of his standout songs include "Redskin Rumba," "Havana Breeze," "Moon Over Miami," and "Jammin' at the Jazz Centre."

An interesting fact about Sangster is that he was a great teacher and mentor to many young jazz musicians. He taught many of Australia's top jazz musicians, including Bernie McGann, Phil Slater, and Paul Grabowsky.
