"Stop Making Sense" is a Talking Heads concert film directed by Jonathan Demme and filmed over four nights at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood in December 1983, when the group was on tour promoting their new album Speaking in Tongues. The film is the first to be shot entirely with digital sound techniques. The band raised the $1.2 million budget themselves. It is considered by many critics to be one of the best concert films of all time. Leonard Maltin called it "one of the greatest rock films of all time", Robert Christgau "the finest concert film" and Pauline Kael "close to perfection".
