Charles Mingus was an American jazz double bassist, composer, bandleader and occasional pianist. He was a major figure in the jazz world and is widely considered one of the most important jazz musicians of the 20th century. Mingus is known for his musical innovation, improvisational skill and distinctive compositions.

Mingus’s early career saw him working with some of the most prominent jazz musicians of the time, such as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Charlie Parker. His most famous albums include The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady (1963), Mingus Ah Um (1959), and Mingus Dynasty (1959). He also recorded extensively with his bands, the Jazz Workshop and the Jazz Composers Workshop.

Some of Mingus’s most well-known songs include “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat”, “Fables of Faubus”, and “Haitian Fight Song”.
