Del Shannon was an American rock and roll musician and singer-songwriter from Michigan. He is best known for his 1961 hit single "Runaway", which reached number one in the US and number two in the UK. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Del Shannon's debut album, Runaway With Del Shannon, was released in 1961. It featured "Runaway" as well as two other Top 40 hits, "Hats Off to Larry" and "So Long Baby". Other standout albums include The Further Adventures of Charles Westover (1964), Home and Away (1966) and Drop Down and Get Me (1970).

Notable singles by Del Shannon include "Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow the Sun)" (1964), "Stranger in Town" (1964) and "Little Town Flirt" (1962).

An interesting fact about Del Shannon is that he was a key figure in the development of what is now known as "the Motown sound". He was one of the first artists to record with the Funk Brothers, the studio musicians at Motown Records, and wrote and produced many of their early hits.
