Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer and one of the most influential composers of the early Romantic period. He was born in Vienna on 31 January 1797 and died on 19 November 1828. Schubert is known for his lieder (songs) and symphonic works. He is considered one of the greatest composers of the early 19th century.

Schubert's most famous works include his Mass No. 2 in G major, his Symphony No. 8 in B minor (the Unfinished Symphony), his Symphony No. 9 in C major (the Great), and his String Quintet in C major. He also wrote many lieder, including the song cycle Die schöne Müllerin and the song Erlkönig.

Some of Schubert's standout albums include Schubert: Symphonies Nos. 3, 8 & 9 (2005), Schubert: String Quartets (2008) and Schubert: Piano Works (2011).

An interesting fact about Schubert is that he wrote over 600 songs, making him one of the most prolific composers of all time. He wrote most of his songs during the final years of his life, in a span of only 18 months.
