Gerry Mulligan was an American jazz baritone saxophonist, arranger, composer, and bandleader. He was one of the leading figures of cool jazz and an important contributor to the development of bebop. He started out as a pianist and arranger, but switched to baritone saxophone when he joined Benny Goodman's band in 1945.

Mulligan is best known for his work in the 1950s with his quartet, which featured saxophonist Chet Baker. He also had a fruitful collaboration with Miles Davis. His most popular albums include Gerry Mulligan Quartet (1952), The Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band (1959), and Parallelograms (1970). His standout songs include "Out of Nowhere," "A Ballad," "Crazy Strings," and "Moonlight in Vermont."

An interesting fact about Mulligan is that he was the first artist to record an album with stereo sound. In 1957, he released an album with the title "Gerry Mulligan in Hi-Fi," which was recorded in stereo.
