Joan Armatrading is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist who has had a successful career in the music industry since the 1970s. She is known for her soulful, blues-influenced style of music and her distinctive voice. Her debut album, Whatever's for Us, was released in 1972 and was an immediate hit, reaching number nine in the UK album charts. She has released more than twenty studio albums, including her most successful album, Me Myself I (1980). This album reached number five in the UK and featured her biggest hit single, "Me Myself I". Other standout albums include Walk Under Ladders (1981), Secret Secrets (1985), and Into the Blues (2007).

Joan Armatrading has also written many popular songs throughout her career, including "Willow", "Love and Affection", "The Weakness in Me", "Drop the Pilot", and "More Than One Kind of Love".

An interesting fact about Joan Armatrading is that she was the first female artist to be nominated for a BRIT Award for Best British Female Solo Artist, in 1983. She was also the first female British artist to be nominated for a Grammy Award, in 1983.
