Khruangbin

Khruangbin is a three-piece instrumental band from Houston, Texas. The trio consists of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald "DJ" Johnson on drums. The band’s music is a unique blend of genres, including dub, psych-rock, soul, and funk.

Khruangbin’s breakout album, The Universe Smiles Upon You, was released in 2015 and earned them a wide international audience. The follow-up album, Con Todo El Mundo, was released in 2018 and received critical acclaim. Both albums feature Khruangbin’s signature instrumental sound and blend of genres. Standout tracks from The Universe Smiles Upon You include “White Gloves”, “Dern Kala”, and “Two Fish and an Elephant”. Standout tracks from Con Todo El Mundo include “Evan Finds the Third Room”, “Friday Morning”, and “Maria También”.

An interesting fact about Khruangbin is that their name means “engine fly” in Thai. The band has stated that their name was inspired by their love of classic Thai rock and funk music.
