Lo-Fi
Lo-fi (short for "low fidelity") is a style of music production that uses lower quality recordings and production techniques than standard production methods. It is often characterized by an unpolished or "unprofessional" sound, with an emphasis on a raw, DIY aesthetic. The lo-fi sound was initially popularized in the late 1980s and early 1990s by independent record labels and college radio stations, and is still widely used today in the production of hip hop, indie rock, and other genres. The lo-fi aesthetic is closely related to the punk rock and DIY scenes, and is often seen as an alternative to the slick, professional sound of mainstream commercial music.
