The Minneapolis Sound is a style of music developed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the mid-1970s and early 1980s, pioneered by artists such as Prince, the Time, and Morris Day and the Time. It was characterized by a blend of funk, rock, pop, soul, and new wave, often incorporating elements of jazz, classical, and rap. The Minneapolis Sound had its roots in the local funk and soul scenes, which were heavily influenced by the work of local producer Jimmy Jam and his then-partner Terry Lewis.
