Neofolk

Neofolk is a musical style that began in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It draws inspiration from traditional folk music, but is heavily influenced by post-punk and gothic rock. It is often characterised by acoustic instruments, such as guitar and harmonica, along with electronic elements. Lyric themes often explore themes of nature, European mythology, and political and social commentary. Neofolk has been described as a combination of traditional folk music and post-industrial music, and has been compared to folk punk, dark folk, and pagan folk. It has been associated with the neopagan and occult communities, as well as the far-right and nationalist movements.
