Sir Neville Marriner Vinyl Records

Sir Neville Marriner (15 April 1924 – 2 October 2016) was an English violinist, conductor, and founder of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Born in Lincoln, Marriner began his musical career as a chorister at the Cathedral and at the age of 12, he began playing the violin. After graduating from the Royal College of Music, Marriner worked as a freelance violinist in London and was appointed Leader of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1949.

Marriner's most notable recordings include Mozart's Marriage of Figaro (1976), which won him a Grammy Award, and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons (1982). His other notable recordings include Bach's Brandenburg Concertos (1974) and Mozart's Symphonies (1989).

An interesting fact about Marriner is that he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1979 and a Knight Bachelor in 1985 for his services to music. He was also the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Classical Brit Awards in 2005.
