Sludge Metal

Sludge metal is a subgenre of heavy metal that combines elements of doom metal, hardcore punk, and noise rock. Its origins can be traced back to the early 1990s in the southern United States. It is characterized by slow, heavy riffs, often with a detuned sound, distorted guitar tones, and an overall dark and brooding atmosphere. Its lyrical content typically deals with topics such as depression, alienation, and nihilism. Popular sludge metal bands include Eyehategod, Melvins, and Acid Bath.
