Symphonic Metal
Symphonic metal is a subgenre of heavy metal that combines the heaviness of traditional metal with the sweeping, often bombastic sound of a full orchestra. It typically features a wide array of instruments, such as violins, cellos, horns, and choirs, as well as electric guitars, bass, and drums. Symphonic metal has its roots in the 1980s, when bands such as Iron Maiden, Queensrÿche, and Metallica began incorporating orchestral elements into their music. This trend was further developed in the 1990s by bands like Therion, Nightwish, and Within Temptation. The genre has since become increasingly popular, with bands like Epica, Lacuna Coil, and Xandria carrying the torch into the 21st century.
