The Motels are an American new wave/pop rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 1979, the band has had a long and varied career, releasing 11 studio albums and multiple singles over the years. The Motels are best known for their hit singles "Only the Lonely" (1982), "Suddenly Last Summer" (1983), and "Total Control" (1985).

The Motels' first album, The Motels, was released in 1980 and featured the single "Total Control", which reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band's next album, Careful, was released in 1982 and featured their biggest hit, "Only the Lonely", which reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1983, The Motels released their third album, All Four One, which included the hit single "Suddenly Last Summer". The band's fourth album, Little Robbers, was released in 1985 and featured the hit single "Shame".

The Motels' fifth album, Shock, was released in 1986 and featured the hit single "Remember the Nights". In 1987, the band released their sixth album, Notorious, which featured the hit single "Take the L". The band's seventh album, Attractive Forces, was released in 1989 and featured the hit single "Mission of Mercy". The band's eighth album, Ten, was released in 1990 and featured the hit single "Do It Again".

The Motels' ninth album, Apocalypso, was released in 1995 and featured the hit single "So L.A.". The band's tenth album, Lovely Little Lonely, was released in 2017 and featured the hit single "Dancing the Night Away". The band's most recent album, The Last Few Beautiful Days, was released in 2020.

An interesting fact about The Motels is that lead singer Martha Davis is the only original member who has remained with the band throughout their entire career.
