The Pretenders are an English-American rock band formed in Hereford, England in 1978. The band's original lineup consisted of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Chrissie Hynde, lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott, bassist Pete Farndon and drummer Martin Chambers.

The Pretenders' debut album, Pretenders, was released in 1980 and is widely considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time. It includes their best-known songs, "Brass in Pocket", "Talk of the Town" and "Kid". The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number one on the UK Albums Chart and number twenty-five on the US Billboard 200.

The Pretenders' follow-up album, Pretenders II, was released in 1981 and featured the hit singles "Message of Love" and "Day After Day". The album was a commercial success, reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart and number twenty-five on the US Billboard 200.

The Pretenders' third album, Learning to Crawl, was released in 1984 and featured the hit singles "Back on the Chain Gang" and "Middle of the Road". The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart and number twenty-five on the US Billboard 200.
