The Cult is led by Ian Astbury on vocals and Billy Duffy on guitar. Their music and albums need no further introduction, as over the years, since their formation in 1983, they have established themselves as one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
"Love" was The Cult's second album, originally released in 1985. It was their breakthrough and spawned many singles, including "Rain," "Revolution" and the epic anthem "She Sells Sanctuary."
The album eventually defined her career, but at the time it was at odds with everything that was going on in the music industry. Their previous album, the atmospheric and psychedelic "Dreamtime", was highly praised by the critics, but for the follow-up they decided to make a complete U-turn.
In their "Story of the Alternative 80s," Metal Hammer summed up the album's story well.... "Love is proof that instinct and conviction are far more powerful and rewarding artistic tools than cynicism or puritanical tyranny, and it continues to resonate because it dared to be a bold British rock album at a time when such values were routinely viewed with suspicion. Above all, Love is an album of great and timeless songs, performed by one of the greatest bands of this or any era."
Two years later, in 1987, The Cult released their third album, Electric, followed by a string of hit albums. The band has continued to release amazing music with their latest release, 2022's "Under The Midnight Sun" - their eleventh album.
