Lizzy McAlpine returns with her third studio album Older
Older is the third studio album and major-label debut of American singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine, released by RCA Records on April 5, 2024.
In early 2023, McAlpine spoke about the record in an interview with The Washington Post as "a project she hopes will be a more raw reflection. Mistakes in the recording studio may end up on the final cut." In Rolling Stone, McAlpine stated this album is much closer to what she "actually sounds like as an artist" compared to her three previous projects, and that it was inspired by seventies singer-songwriters, as well as Elliott Smith & Andy Shauf.
McAlpine maintains her recurrent use of time-related album titles, making her album list the following: Give Me A Minute, five seconds flat, and now Older. This motif establishes a connection to her past works and directs the album and her future creations.
McAlpine says: "This album took me three years to get right. i only got it right because me and mason and taylor and libro and sam and ted and richter and nuffer and jesse all sat in a room for 2 weeks and figured out how to get it right. then mason and taylor and jesse and i sat in that room for 2 more weeks and made sure that it was right. those few weeks were hard and fun and also the turning point for this record. the song "Older" specifically was the moment it all started to come together in my head. For now, i hope you know that i did not compromise. i was very stressed out the whole time but i think we got somewhere really cool in the end. making and promoting art feels very strange right now, but i hope you can find some comfort in what we've made. i love you." — via Instagram
