Not only is Mark Lanegan releasing his memoir "Sing Backwards And Weep" at the end of April 2020, the singer, songwriter and former Sreacming Trees frontman is also presenting a brand new album to go with it."Straight Songs Of Sorrow" is the name of the now twelfth long player, the follow-up to 2019's "Somebody's Knocking."Work on the record began shortly after Lanegan finished his book. Each song on "Straight Songs Of Sorrow" refers to a certain episode or person in the book, some a bit more specific than others.Musically, the singer with the unmistakable voice remains true to his dark sound and the mixture of psychedelic rock, grunge, wave, post-punk and gothic rock. This is already shown by the first single "Skeleton Key".Guests on the new album include Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli, Warren Ellis of the Bad Seeds and singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt.
