Baden Powell

Baden Powell was a Brazilian guitarist, songwriter and composer who was highly influential in the development of bossa nova music. He was born in Varre-Sai, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1937 and began playing guitar at the age of 8. Powell went on to become one of the most celebrated guitarists in Brazil and is often referred to as the "father of bossa nova."

Powell recorded his first solo album, Poema on Guitar, in 1961. He released a total of 15 studio albums throughout his career. Some of his standout albums include Tristeza on Guitar (1963), Ao Vivo (1977) and Baden Powell e Vinicius de Moraes (1975).

Powell's best-known songs include "Berimbau", "Consolação" and "Canto de Xango".

An interesting fact about Baden Powell is that he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit in 2002 by the Brazilian government for his significant contribution to Brazilian music.
