  • "Struttin" is the third studio album by funk band The Meters, originally released in 1970. The first single release, "Chicken Strut", reached #11 on the U. S. R&B singles chart. At first glance, the album doesn't seem drastically different from its predecessors. After all, the title of the lead single "Chicken Strut" is intentionally reminiscent of their biggest hit to date, "Cissy Strut," and it has the same basic Meters groove to boot

But even if the essential sound remains unchanged, it's only because that organic, earthy funk is the fundamental main feature of the Meters' musical signature. In the past, other groups have tried to match the band, but no one comes close to the original. With "Struttin" the band now introduces vocals for the first time when Art Nevilles takes over on the cover of Ty Hunters' soulful uptown shuffle number "Darling, Darling, Darling", on Jimmy Webbs' groovy ballad "Wichita Lineman" or Lee Dorseys' "Ride Your Pony" (The Meters backed the original recording).
