Beguine
Beguine is a type of Latin American music and dance originating from the Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. It is a mix of African and European influences, characterized by a slow, lilting rhythm with a syncopated beat. The music was popularized in the 1930s by the French composer and bandleader, Jean-Baptiste A. Breau, who coined the name “Beguine” to describe the music. The genre has since evolved and been embraced by many other Caribbean nations, including Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Beguine is often danced to in couples and is a popular choice for wedding celebrations and other festive occasions.
