  • Gang Starr are often mentioned in the same breath as the New York Native Tongues posse around A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul & Jungle Brothers, whose intellectual, politically conscious texts and more experimental sounds stand out pleasantly from the US gangsta rap that was dominating at the same time. In 2003 her last work 'The Ownerz' was published for the time being.

    DJ Premiere worked from then on with the créme de la créme of R & B / Hip-Hop (Jay-Z, Drake, Janet Jackson, Kanye West, Mos Def, DJ Khaled, etc.) and won three Grammys while Guru pursued his influential Jazzmatazz project . Guru passed away in 2010 and Gang Starr was silent for a long time. Now DJ Premier is stepping out of the shadows and releasing a new Gang Starr album whose pre-single / video "Family & Loyalty" sounds like an homage to the deceased guru, while the second single "Bad Dreams" still bears his voice.

    With feature guests like Q-Tip, Royce Da 5'9 ", Talib Kweli, Ne-Yo, J. Cole, Jeru The Damaja, MOP and Big Shug, One Of The Best Yet celebrates and carries the legacy of this legendary formation their influence into the present.
