  • The "Holy Grail of Jazz": a complete, lost John Coltrane studio album, which the saxophonist recorded with his classical quartet at Van Gelder Studios in 1963, sees the light of day. "Both Directions At Once - The Lost Album" also contains never-before-heard Coltrane originals

"No question about it. Fifty-one years after his death, every new music by John Coltrane immediately arouses enthusiasm. Yes, huge enthusiasm", Coltrane biographer Ashley Kahn writes in the liner notes to "Both Directions At Once - The Lost Album". "Especially when this discovery is a superbly produced studio recording like this, made available to the public for the first time."

On 6 March 1963 John Coltrane and the musicians of his classical quartet - McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones - recorded a complete studio album at the legendary Van Gelder Studios. This music, which also contains originals never heard before, is now finally released after 55 years. The recording is without exaggeration the "Holy Grail of Jazz". Both Directions At Once - The Lost Album" will be released on June 29th by Impulse! Records, the label where Coltrane had found his last home and where his creativity reached its peak.
