Billy Talent is a Canadian alternative rock band that was formed in 1993 in Mississauga, Ontario. The original band members were vocalist Benjamin Kowalewicz, guitarist Ian D'Sa, bassist Jon Gallant and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk. The band's name was inspired by a character from the movie Hard Core Logo, a Canadian punk rock film. The band's first full-length album, Billy Talent, was released in 2003 and went on to be certified triple platinum in Canada. The album spawned a number of hit singles including "Try Honesty," "River Below," "Standing in the Rain," and "Nothing to Lose." Their second album, Billy Talent II, was released in 2006 and was even more successful than its predecessor. It featured the hit singles "Devil in a Midnight Mass," "Red Flag," and "Fallen Leaves" and went on to be certified five times platinum in Canada. The band's third album, Billy Talent III, was released in 2009 and was the band's most successful album to date. It featured the hit singles "Rusted From the Rain," "White Sparrows," and "Surprise, Surprise" and was certified four times platinum in Canada. The band's most recent album, Afraid of Heights, was released in 2016 and featured the hit singles "Afraid of Heights," "Ghost Ship of Cannibal Rats," and "Louder Than the DJ." An interesting fact about Billy Talent is that the band has won over 30 awards, including five Juno Awards. They have also been nominated for three Grammy Awards.
