Buddy Tate (1913-2001) was an American jazz saxophonist and clarinetist who played with the likes of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Benny Goodman. He was known for his smooth and soulful style of playing.
Tate's most popular albums include: “Tate’s Date” (1960), “Gone with Tate” (1963), “Groovin’ with Tate” (1966), “Tate’s A-Flowing” (1969), and “Saxophone Man” (1975). His most popular songs include “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)”, “Take the ‘A’ Train”, “C Jam Blues”, and “Moten Swing”.
An interesting fact about Buddy Tate is that he was the only saxophone player to appear on all of Count Basie's recordings from 1937 to 1948. He was also the only saxophone player to appear on every recording session for Duke Ellington from 1939 to 1941.
