Charlie Byrd Vinyl Records

Charlie Byrd (1925-1999) was an American jazz guitarist, composer and educator, best known for his association with Brazilian music. He is credited with introducing bossa nova music to the United States and for launching the bossa nova craze of the 1960s. He was also a noted jazz guitarist and composer, and he had a lengthy career, recording more than 60 albums.

Byrd's most popular albums include the classic 1962 release, Jazz Samba, recorded with Stan Getz; Bossa Nova Pelos Passaros; and Latin Impressions, which was released in 1963. He also recorded two albums with the great guitarist, Barney Kessel, entitled Blues for Two. Other standout albums include Brazilian Byrd, Live at Pep's, and Live at the New School.

Byrd's most popular songs include “Desafinado”, “The Girl From Ipanema”, “One Note Samba”, “Samba de Orfeu”, and “Manha de Carnaval”.

An interesting fact about Charlie Byrd is that he was the first artist to record the classic bossa nova song “The Girl From Ipanema”. He also won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance by a Group or Soloist with Orchestra in 1963 for his album, Jazz Samba.
