Conscious

Conscious music is a genre of music that is intended to be thought provoking, inspiring and often politically conscious. It originated in the late 1960s as a way to express feelings of protest and social awareness. The genre is often linked to the Black Power Movement, with some of its early influences being the music of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Curtis Mayfield. The genre has evolved since then, incorporating elements of hip-hop, jazz, and reggae, as well as other genres. Conscious music is known for its lyrical content, often focusing on topics such as racial inequality, poverty, and injustice. The genre has been embraced by many contemporary artists, including Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and Chance the Rapper.
