Curved Air is an English progressive rock and progressive folk band formed in 1970. The band was founded by Darryl Way, an acclaimed classical violinist, and Francis Monkman, a former member of the band Sisyphus. The two were joined by drummer Florian Pilkington-Miksa, vocalist Sonja Kristina, and bassist Mike Wedgwood.

The band's debut album, 1970's Air Conditioning, was a hit with critics and fans alike. It contained the hit singles "Back Street Luv" and "It Happened Today," both of which became staples of progressive rock radio. The album also contained the epic instrumental track "Vivaldi," which showcased Way's classical influences.

The band's follow-up album, 1971's Second Album, contained their biggest hit, "The Phantom of the Opera," and was their most successful album. It featured a number of progressive rock and progressive folk tracks, as well as the acoustic ballad "Propositions."

The band's other standout albums include 1973's Phantasmagoria, 1975's Air Cut, and 1976's Lovechild. All of these albums contained a mix of progressive rock and progressive folk, with elements of classical music.

Curved Air's songs are still played on progressive rock radio today, particularly "Back Street Luv," "It Happened Today," and "The Phantom of the Opera."

An interesting fact about Curved Air is that they were one of the first progressive rock bands to tour the United States. They performed a successful tour in 1972, which was documented on their 1973 live album Live.
