Dexter Gordon (1923-1990) was a jazz saxophonist, composer, and actor. He was one of the first saxophonists to combine the bebop style of jazz with the larger-than-life tones of a tenor saxophone. His influence on the music world is still felt today.

Some of Dexter Gordon's standout albums include Go (1962), A Swingin' Affair (1963), and The Tower of Power (1969). He is best known for his song "Cheese Cake" which appeared on the album Go. Other notable songs include "The Panther" from the album A Swingin' Affair, and "Lullaby of Birdland" from the album The Tower of Power.

An interesting fact about Dexter Gordon is that he was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as "Dale Turner" in the 1986 film Round Midnight. He was the first jazz musician to be nominated for an Oscar in the acting category.
