Donny Hathaway was an American soul singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, whose career spanned the late 1960s to the late 1970s. He is best remembered for his classic hits “The Closer I Get to You” (a duet with Roberta Flack), “This Christmas”, “Giving Up”, and “Someday We’ll All Be Free”.

Hathaway released a total of five studio albums in his lifetime, beginning with his 1970 self-titled debut, followed by 1971's Everything Is Everything, 1972's Live, 1973's Extension of a Man, and 1977's self-titled Donny Hathaway. His standout albums include the 1970 release Donny Hathaway, which featured the hits “The Ghetto”, “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know”, and “You’ve Got a Friend”, as well as the 1971 release Everything Is Everything, which featured “To Be Young, Gifted and Black” and “The Closer I Get to You”.

Some of Hathaway's other notable songs include “A Song For You”, “Little Ghetto Boy”, “Where Is the Love”, “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know”, and “For All We Know”.

An interesting fact about Donny Hathaway is that he won two Grammy Awards, one for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus for “The Closer I Get to You”, and another for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group for “Where Is the Love”.
