Earl Grant

Earl Grant was an American pianist, organist, and vocalist, who gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s for his hits “The End” and “House of Bamboo”. Born in 1931 in Idabel, Oklahoma, he learned to play the piano at an early age, and went on to study music at the University of Tulsa. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and found success playing in clubs and touring with the likes of Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, and Sammy Davis, Jr. He released several albums, including the popular 1959 album Earl Grant At the Organ, and 1965’s At the Piano, both of which were top 20 Billboard hits. Some of his standout songs include “The End”, “House of Bamboo”, “Ebb Tide”, “Night Train”, and “Swingin' Gently”. An interesting fact about Earl Grant is that he was one of the first African American artists to have his own television variety show, The Earl Grant Show, which aired from 1958 to 1959.
