Ten years ago, Truth & Soul released label co-owner Leon Michels' first long player, Sounding Out The City, under his El Michels Affair Project name.At this point, mostly meters-inspired albums were circulating from the emerging retro-soul / funk scene. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings were in the early stages of their career and still on their way to becoming the most popular band in the worldwide following. Michels, as a young artist at the time, discovered genres such as Rocksteady, Afrobeat and 60's Garage Rock, which he incorporated into the recordings of the album.
