From a total of 60 initial ideas and song sketches, he finally selected the 12 that will be included on the album All Melody, which means that a quadruple of them should remain in the drawer for the time being: "We actually had the idea for the Encores even before All Melody: namely to make three releases, each with its own musical style and its own theme. At first we thought of a triple album. But then All Melody got bigger and bigger and pushed these first concept ideas aside," says Frahm

Intended as a kind of accompanying appendix to All Melody, with the track "The Dane", for example, already turning out to be an absolute live highlight on the current world tour, Encores 1 concentrates throughout on acoustic recordings with two instruments: (solo) piano and harmonium. "I think you can compare the idea of Encores with sonic islands that expand All Melody", Nils Frahm continues - and thus hints that the story of All Melody is possibly far from over..

Over the last few years, Nils Frahm has been busy building a brand new studio in Berlin's historic Funkhaus on the banks of the Spree River, where he recorded his seventh studio album, "All Melody". This came out at the end of January 2018 on Erased Tapes and brought the composer and producer many benevolent reviews. "Rarely has electronic minimalism and contemporary classical music been so seemingly effortlessly fused into a melody-rich impressionism," found the "Musikexpress", for example. And Deutschlandfunk even praised "All Melody" as Frahm's "opus magnum". All those who can't get enough of Frahm's two-dimensional, reverberated sound architectures between neo-classical, techno, ambient, minmal and glitch, can now pick up "Encores 1". The 12" contains five tracks that were created during the sessions for "All Melody".
