Emo

Emo is a genre of music and a subculture that emerged in the mid-1980s from the American hardcore punk movement. It is characterized by its confessional, emotionally intense lyrics and often features melodic guitars, particularly in the mid-late 2000s. Emo is often associated with a "do it yourself" attitude and often deals with topics such as heartbreak, self-deprecation, anxiety, and loneliness. It has also been linked to a style of fashion and an offshoot of punk music. Emo began to gain mainstream attention in the early 2000s with the emergence of bands such as Dashboard Confessional and My Chemical Romance, and has continued to grow in popularity since then.
