Ernest Ansermet Vinyl Records

Ernest Ansermet (1883-1969) was a Swiss conductor, best known for his long association with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, which he directed for over 40 years. He was also a prolific recording artist and an important figure in early 20th century classical music.

Ansermet was a prominent advocate of contemporary music, and was the first conductor to record works by Igor Stravinsky and Charles Ives. His recordings of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Petrushka remain among the most acclaimed recordings of the work. He also conducted the world premiere of the ballet Orpheus by Stravinsky in 1927.

Ansermet's standout albums include: Debussy: La Mer, Images, Nocturnes; Ravel: Bolero, Ma Mère l'Oye, Pavane pour une Infante défunte; and Stravinsky: The Firebird, Petrushka, The Rite of Spring. His most famous songs include Debussy's "Clair de lune" and Ravel's "Boléro".

An interesting fact about Ansermet is that he was the first conductor to introduce an entirely new system of musical notation, which is now known as the Ansermet System. He also helped to revive interest in works by composers such as Gluck, Mozart, and Handel.
