Eugen Jochum
Eugen Jochum (1902-1987) was a German conductor, composer and music educator. He was a major figure in German music of the 20th century, and his career spanned almost six decades. He was particularly known for his performances of the works of Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler and Wagner. He was also one of the first conductors to record the complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies.
Jochum's standout albums include his recordings of Brahms's Symphony No. 1, Mahler's Symphony No. 5, and Wagner's Die Walküre and Parsifal. He was also noted for his performances of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, and for his recordings of the complete symphonies of Haydn and Schubert.
An interesting fact about Eugen Jochum is that he was the first conductor to record the complete cycle of Beethoven symphonies. He also conducted the world premieres of works by Richard Strauss, Paul Hindemith and Hans Pfitzner.
