Eva Cassidy (1963-1996) was a singer and musician from Washington, DC. She became known for her wide vocal range and beautiful interpretations of jazz, blues, folk, gospel, country, and rock. Cassidy's career began when she sang at the Washington, DC area clubs, before signing a recording contract with Blix Street Records in 1996.

Her breakout album, Live at Blues Alley, was released posthumously in 1996. The album featured classic songs such as "Fields of Gold," "Songbird," and "Over the Rainbow." Her second posthumous album, Songbird, was released in 1998, and featured the hits "Ain't No Sunshine" and "Time After Time."

An interesting fact about Cassidy is that her music was only widely popular after her death. In the United States, her songs were largely unknown until a 2001 BBC documentary about her life and music was released, sparking a surge in popularity.
