Frédéric François Chopin (1810-1849) was a Polish-born, French-raised composer and virtuoso pianist. He is considered one of the great masters of Romantic music and is one of the most renowned composers of piano music in history. His works include over 200 pieces for solo piano, mazurkas, polonaises, nocturnes, preludes, etudes, and concertos.
Chopin’s standout works include the “Revolutionary” Etude, the “Minute” Waltz, the “Heroic” Polonaise, and the “Raindrop” Prelude. He is also well-known for the “Funeral March” from his Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 35, and the “Fantasie Impromptu” in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 66.
An interesting fact about Chopin is that he was the first major composer to write extensively for the solo piano. He was also one of the first composers to utilize musical forms such as the etude and the nocturne.
