Gerry & The Pacemakers

Gerry & The Pacemakers are an English beat band formed in Liverpool in 1959 by Gerry Marsden, Les Chadwick, Arthur McMahon, and Les Maguire. The band is best known for their hit singles “How Do You Do It?”, “I Like It”, “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying” and “Ferry Cross the Mersey”.

The group’s first two singles, “How Do You Do It?” and “I Like It” both topped the UK Singles Chart in 1963, followed by “You’ll Never Walk Alone” which reached number one in April 1964. They released their debut album How Do You Like It? that same year.

Gerry & The Pacemakers released several more successful albums including I’ll Be There (1964), It’s Gonna Be Alright (1965), and Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying (1966). They also released several compilation albums in the late 1960s, including the hits compilation The Best of Gerry & The Pacemakers (1967).

One interesting fact about Gerry & The Pacemakers is that their song “Ferry Cross the Mersey” was used as the theme for the film of the same name in 1965. The film starred the band members, and was based on the real-life story of a ferry disaster in the River Mersey in Liverpool in 1956.
