Grindcore is a genre of extreme metal music that originated in the early 1980s in England. It is characterized by short songs, fast tempos, heavily distorted guitars, and complex, often chaotic, drumming. Grindcore often features vocal styles that range from high-pitched shrieks to low, throaty growls and shouts. Grindcore lyrics often focus on social and political issues such as animal rights, anarchism, and anti-fascism. The genre has been heavily influenced by punk rock, death metal, and hardcore punk.
