Guaguancó

Guaguancó is a style of Cuban music and dance that originated in the late 19th century in the provinces of Matanzas and Havana. It is considered the root of all Cuban rumba styles. The genre is a mix of African and Spanish elements, combining African-based percussion and call-and-response singing with Spanish-influenced melodies and harmony. The style is characterized by its highly syncopated and complex rhythm, as well as its fast and intricate footwork and syncopated hand clapping. Guaguancó is traditionally performed by a band of three singers, two guitarists, and a set of percussion instruments such as bongos, maracas, claves, and a güiro.
